Observation on the Development of Domestic Oil Pipe Remanufacturing Industry

Tubing accounts for more than 10% of the total steel used in the petroleum industry and is a major item of consumables and costs in oilfield production. Remanufacturing technology can change useless used tubing into new tubing with better performance, which has considerable economic benefits for oilfield enterprises that scrap a large number of tubing every year. However, the oil pipe remanufacturing industry is still in the pilot stage in China, and there are not many people who know about remanufacturing technology, and fewer enterprises apply it.
 
How to promote the concept of waste tubing remanufacturing and accelerate the development of the remanufacturing industry? Not long ago, the Chinese Academy of Engineering held a research project meeting on the development strategy of China's oil and gas tubing remanufacturing. More than 40 experts, including 5 academicians, discussed the development model and technical means of China's oil pipe remanufacturing.
 
Oil pipe reengineering can create efficiency: remanufacturing 1 ton saves 50000 yuan
 
Due to corrosion and partial wear all the year round, the inner wall of the oil pipe and the thread of the joint are easy to be scrapped. According to the average life span of 10 years, the amount of waste oil pipes produced in each oil field in China is about 700000 tons per year, and the scrapped sucker rod is tens of millions of meters.
 
Xu Binshi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and initiator of the China Remanufacturing Project, said that through the recycling and optimization of waste resources, the remanufacturing of petroleum pipes can save costs for enterprises, ensure production, and reduce energy consumption and pollution.
 
From the perspective of investment cost, oil pipe remanufacturing can improve the anti-corrosion and wear resistance of oil pipes, extend the service life of used oil pipes, and reduce the consumption of new oil pipes. Taking the N80 tubing of the water injection well as an example, the reconstructed ceramic tubing is 89 yuan per meter, no additional anti-corrosion investment is required, and the investment per meter is reduced by 40 yuan. Moreover, the service life of the reconstituted tubing is 5 times the investment of the ordinary tubing. According to the price of N80 tubing 7600 yuan/ton, the reconstruction is more than 50000 yuan.
 
Li Yiliang, deputy director of the Equipment Institute of PetroChina Exploration and Development Research Institute, pointed out that from 2013 to 2014, PetroChina's oil fields consumed 2.544 million tons of tubing and pipes, and the application of remanufacturing in petroleum pipes has good economic benefits.
 
In the production of oil wells, the performance of remanufactured tubing is greatly improved in wear resistance, wax prevention and scale prevention than ordinary tubing, which can effectively save the high cost of workover operation caused by tubing damage. Take Changqing oilfield as an example, this oilfield will remanufacture waste tubing used in 13 oil and water wells with the most serious corrosion and scaling. Among them, the number of operations of 9 oil and water wells decreased from 66 to 10, saving the operation cost of 730000 yuan, increasing the oil benefit of 790000 yuan, and greatly reducing the corrosion and wear of oil pipes.
 
In terms of resources and environment, waste oil pipes containing harmful substances are easy to accumulate to form solid waste, and remanufacturing technology has revitalized these scrap assets. More importantly, the average life of remanufactured oil pipes is more than 3 times that of ordinary new oil pipes. The remanufacturing of 1 ton of waste oil pipes means that 5 tons of steel can be reduced, 4.3 tons of standard coal can be saved, 27.5 tons of water can be saved, and carbon dioxide emission can be reduced. 10 tons.
 
Xu Binshi believes that oil pipe remanufacturing can not only recover the direct loss of pipe, but also a large number of indirect losses of oil fields, which is "huge potential and imperative" in China ".
 
Oil pipe reengineering started late, industrial scale to be increased
 
Since the development of petroleum equipment remanufacturing technology in Europe, America, Japan and other places in the 1970 s, it has developed on the basis of prototype product manufacturing. It is mainly based on the size repair method and the replacement repair method. A mature system has been formed in terms of processing and manufacturing equipment and technical standards.
 
China's waste pipe remanufacturing began in 2005 in Jilin Oilfield to carry out the exploration of "waste pipe reengineering technology", experienced concept proposal, technology research and development and pilot promotion, the development has been only 10 years.
 
Technically, China's tubing remanufacturing technology started late, but came from behind, and individual technologies have made breakthroughs. The remanufactured product catalog released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that the current domestic self-developed tubing remanufacturing technologies include two types: self-propagating repair technology and lined anti-corrosion and wear-resistant tubing technology. Among them, the self-spreading repair technology is in a leading position in China's petroleum equipment industry and even in the world.
 
Yang Yongli, chairman of most companies that developed this technology, told reporters that at present, there are bottlenecks in foreign self-spreading technology, and the length of repairable tubing is limited to 2 to 3 meters, while the technology independently developed in China has been able to successfully repair more than 10 meters of tubing, and the cost per meter is 10 to 40 yuan lower than that of new tubing.
 
In terms of application, about 10 oilfields in China have used remanufactured tubing on a pilot basis, and basically received good results. By the end of 2014, more than 500 million meters of lined anti-corrosion tubing had been used in Shengli, Dagang, Jidong, Zhongyuan, Yanchang and other oil fields, and more than 3000 wells had been treated for anti-corrosion, scale and deviation prevention. Changqing, Xinjiang, Jilin and other oilfields use self-spreading repair technology to achieve a repair rate of 80% of the oil field waste tubing. Many oil fields have proposed to expand the scale of reclaimed tubing.
 
On the scale of production capacity, the current domestic tubing remanufacturing capacity needs to be further improved. The annual tubing scrap in China is about 700000 tons, and it is also increasing year by year. But at present, the domestic oil pipe remanufacturing capacity is less than 100000 tons per year.
 
Li Yiliang said at the meeting that although there are a large number of state-owned private repair plants engaged in oil pipe repair in domestic oil fields, most of the technologies used are only primary classified processing of waste oil pipes, which cannot reach the remanufacturing level of "old in new", and the recycling benefits of waste oil pipes are limited. This fundamentally limits the capacity scale of tubing remanufacturing.
 
Oil pipe reengineering should promote the concept of "reengineering" first-served
 
At present, the promotion of oil pipe remanufacturing is facing a rare policy opportunity. The state gives a 10% subsidy for remanufactured products. If 500000 tons of waste oil pipes are manufactured again, the state subsidy fund will be 0.54 billion yuan. For remanufacturing enterprises, remanufacturing 10000 tons of waste tubing can bring 80 million yuan of output value and considerable profits.
 
However, at the meeting, the remanufacturing project investigation team pointed out that at present, most employees in many oil fields in China, including material supply personnel, know little about the policy and benefits of waste management and recycling. Zhang Feng, director of the Oil Well Management Research Office of Baoji Steel Pipe Research Institute, said that the business direction of PetroChina's oil pipe manufacturing enterprises is mainly for new oil pipes, and they do not know much about waste pipe reengineering technology and have basically not set foot in it.
 
Experts at the project meeting agreed that the current scale of the tubing remanufacturing industry is not large, and there are not many remanufacturing entities. The main reason is that the concept of tubing remanufacturing is not deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Therefore, the first thing is to increase the publicity of the tubing remanufacturing industry, and the concept of "reengineering" is the first thing to do.
 
In addition to the problem of concept and understanding, the remanufacturing industry in the process of industrialization also faces problems in technology and management.
 
Li Helin, academician of the China Petroleum Tubing Research Institute, said at the meeting that in terms of technology, my country's tubing remanufacturing technology has made certain breakthroughs, but there is a long way to go in the future.
 
On the one hand, the liquid composition in oil and water wells is becoming more and more complex with the development. At the same time, the development of deep wells and high-pressure wells requires oil well pipes to have better anti-corrosion performance and higher strength. China's pipeline self-reengineering technology has achieved initial success in some aspects, but the scope and depth of application need to be expanded.
 
On the other hand, the types of pipes used in China's oil fields are diverse, with different diameters and complex situations. In order to promote remanufacturing, it is necessary to further develop its technology and equipment according to local conditions. Qi Dongtao, director of the Composite Materials Research Center of China Petroleum Tubing Research Institute, also said that non-metallic and composite tubing will be competitors for remanufactured tubing in the future.
 
In terms of management, tubing remanufacturing is an emerging industry and requires relevant departments to formulate industry standards as soon as possible. Li Yiliang said that the current system should be established as soon as possible, perfect oil pipe remanufacturing process technical standards, quality. In addition, it is necessary to improve the theoretical system of remanufacturing, study the life evaluation theory of waste tubing and remanufactured products, and establish the residual life evaluation method of oil well pipe rod.
